Research Blog
Hey guys! It’s me, Anayah Cardenas and welcome back to my blog! Since I have a commercial project coming up, I've been researching other commercials related to my product. The product that my group and I have decided to advertise is Beyond Raw Lit, Strawberry Lemonade pre-workout. When researching commercials related to my product, I noticed many things. The commercials I have seen usually start off with a wide shot of the subject inside the gym, or wherever else their workout is taking place. Another common shot in these commercials is inserted shots. Typically, they would do this with the pre-workout they're advertising or when the subject is working out to emphasize the effect of the pre-workout. There are plenty of medium-long shots that I see as well. In a pre-workout commercial, this is done to show the upper body of the subject while working out. There's over the shoulder shots which show the subject's back. Overall, they use many shots from different angles. High-angle shots are the most common for when the subject is bench pressing. On the other hand, low-angle shots are used to show the subject's full frame and give them a dramatic boost of power, to show that the pre-workout is doing this. Close-up shots are also used generally when the subject is drinking the product. Dutch angles are used towards the ends of the commercials on the product to add effect. The shot I see the most by far is the tracking shot. After the pre-workout is consumed there is usually a lot of tracking shots of the subject's workout. With this, there are a lot of jump cuts as well to go from workout to workout. Cross-cutting is used as well to show how the subject's how blood-pump is connected to the workout that they just completed. I also noticed dissolve editing when transitioning from the person's workout to the product in a separate room. I noticed that these commercials use voice-overs to motivate the person to buy the pre-workout. There's also diegetic and non-diegetic sound being used in unity. The diegetic sound would be the sound of the weights and the non-diegetic sound would be an upbeat soundtrack. Some of the commercials had dialogue for more of a story tone. The set was in a gym for the most part. The props used were weights, the pre-workout, water for a splash effect, fruit next to the pre-workout to express the flavor, and a shaker for the drink. The costumes were gym attire. Well that about sums up today's blog, I hope everyone enjoyed it! This is Anayah Cardenas, signing out.
